Kolukkumalai - World's Highest Tea Estate in India // Magali Vaz

http://www.magalic.com/ I visited Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, a place that holds the distinction of being the highest organic tea plantation in the world. Click 'SHOW MORE' for more details! The Kolukkumalai Tea Plantation is located 35 kms outside Munnar, Kerala & accessible only by Jeep. Kolukkumalai is about 7,900 ft above sea level and you can even views of the far off plains in the bordering State of Tamil Nadu. The two-storied Tea Factory was built in the 1930s with wooden interiors so typical of colonial India. Here tea is processed in the orthodox method, which is different from the more popular CTC (crush-tear-curl method). Since I took the guided tour I filmed the whole thing, start-to-finish so you can see the entire process of how tea is made in the factory. They also have a gift shop where you can buy their tea. The drive up & down the hill too is absolutely breathtaking, but it's also very bumpy so I wasn't able to get any usable footage. Enjoy!
