Kadaram is a visual essay of the 125 year-old Muthu Mariamman Temple located at Jeniang, Kedah. Deep inside the Tai Li estate, the century-old Hindu temple houses statues of Hindu deities, most notably the Vinayagar, which is said to be 125 years old or more, judging from its old concrete moulding. Tai Li estate is one of the earliest settlement for Indian estate workers, as it can be dated back 3 generations ago. Approximately 300 families were settled there, but now only 5 remain. The estate was popular for its tea plantation, rubber and oil palm. The video shoot was completed within 4 hours and all of it are single takes without checking playbacks, this is done to preserve the authenticity of the view. As a filmmaker, I notice the importance of heritage and Kadaram is one way of preserving our heritage and history.
