DATELINE: TECUMSEH, MICHIGAN Joan Gabrielle Rice, age 79, of Tecumseh, passed away September 18, 2016. She was born September 22, 1936 in Washington, D.C. the daughter of Irving and Sarah (McCordic) Linger. On September 8, 1990, she married Charles W. Rice and he survives. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan attaining a Masters Degree in Social Work. Joan had her own private practice in Psychotherapy for 20 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Clinton. Joan was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed family gatherings and being with people. Joan will be dearly missed. In addition to her husband Chuck, Joan is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Kim) Leonard of Overland Park, KS, Linda (John) Carver of Troy, Shelly Mazur of Farmington Hills; 2 step-children Laurie Hofman of Tecumseh, and Lynn Gerich of Grosse Ile; 7 grand-children, Adam, Samantha, Eric, Chelsea, Jacqueline, Jason, and Jacob; step-grandchildren Caroline, Michael, and Janet; great step-grandchildren, Mikayla and Mikenzie and half-siblings, Jody (Bob) Cole of Medford, OR, Jean Unger of Truckee, CA, and Mike Linger of College Station, TX. In addtion to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Martha Ann Arthur and half brother, Don Linger. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a,m, Thursday September 22, 2016 at Clinton United Church of Christ with Rev. Diane White officiating. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery, Tecumseh. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday September 21, 2016 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
