A farm owner named Nobuou Onishi goes to great lengths to make his scarecrows look like real people. Typical-looking scarecrows might be able to fool birds, but not too many humans could mistake one for a real person. However if you happen to be in Shiga Prefecture, Japan you might be tricked. That’s because a farm owner named Nobuou Onishi goes to great lengths to make his scarecrows look like real people. Onishi doesn’t just have one or two resting on his property. Instead, he’s got a whole family of them hanging around on the farm. In place of straw, hay and grass clippings for the stuffing, Onishi uses wood and bolts to construct human-like skeletons. Some of the scarecrows are sitting in chairs, while others are kneeling down with tools in their hands, making it look as though they are working. It’s safe to say Onishi is big on details. The scarecrows all have different clothing on. A number of them showcase plaid or printed button down tops, but another group wears non-farm attire like aprons, robes and dressy vests. Hats, helmets, belts, rain boots and casual sneakers are just a few accessories. Some of the scarecrows were given items like a beer can, handcart, video camera and microphone to make it look like they’re busy. One is sitting on a bicycle. Due to all the attention his realistic scarecrows have garnered, staffers from a local art museum have asked him to create a special installation.
