Japan Trip: Histori Hokkaido at the Historic Village of Hokkaido, Hokkaido 21 The Historic Village of Hokkaido (開拓の) is an open air museum located in the Nopporo Forest Park just outside of Sapporo. The village houses about 60 vintage Hokkaido buildings from the Meiji and Taisho Periods (1868 to 1926). There is a horse drawn trolley along the main street as well. The museum is divided into four sections (town, fishing village, farm village, and mountain village) for visitors to experience to understand the historical roots. Facility Information: Open Air Museum (Historic Village of Hokkaido) Hours: 9:00 to 17:00 (until 16:30 from October to April) Note: Last Entry is 30 minutes before closing time. Closed: Mondays from October through April (or Tuesday if Monday is a national holiday) December 29th to January 3rd Admission: 830 yen (680 yen in winter) Level of English: Good The Historical Museum of Hokkaido (開拓記念館) provides historical documents concerning the history of Hokkaido's development. It is located about a ten minute by foot from the open air museum. The museum has eight areas which chronologically display the prefecture's history from its first occupation by humans about 20,000 years ago to the post war years after 1945 and into the future. Facility Information: Historical Museum of Hokkaido Hours: 9:00 to 16:30 (last entry at 16:00) Closed: Mondays, December 29 to January 3 and occasional closures for maintenance Admission: 500 yen Level of English: Good Access Information: The Historic Village of Hokkaido is located in the outside of central Sapporo. **By Train and Bus (Sapporo Station): From Sapporo Station, board the local train to Shinrin Koen Station. The one-way journey should take 15 minutes with a cost of 260 yen. From Shinrin Koen Station, board the bus Number 22 Kaitakunomura and disembark at the last stop. The bus ride should take 5 minutes and there are 1 or 2 buses per hour. **By Bus: From Shin-Sapporo Station, board the bus Number 22 bound for Kaitakunomura and disembark at the last stop. The bus ride should take about 15 minutes and there are 1 or 2 buses per hour.
