Learn more about us through http://letsstopdiabetes.jdrftype1.com Long before Europeans first set foot upon this continent, people found this area hospitable. The verdant hills and plains held an abundance of resources, and the Nisenan—a branch of the Maidu Indians—established a large village on the site that would become the City of Lincoln. With the discovery of gold, Easterners began streaming toward the Sierra Nevada, in search of their fortunes. Towns sprung up overnight, but the site of Lincoln remained unsettled until 1859. The Western Placer Unified School District provides educational services to Lincoln residents. WPUSD currently serves approximately 6,600 students from transitional kindergarten to twelfth grade and is growing by approximately 1% each year. In addition to the seven elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school and one continuation school, the district owns and operates a 415 acre ranch property. The ranch is located 12 miles from the high school. In addition to crop production such as rice, oats, and hay, the farm maintains a Ranch Management class and occasional Construction Technology projects. In 2015-16 four new classrooms and a fully equipped welding shop will be installed to support agricultural and environmental studies programs. The acreage has access to ample irrigation water and has unlimited potential for agricultural and environmental studies. People with T1D must regularly monitor their blood-sugar level, inject or continually infuse insulin through a pump, and carefully balance their insulin doses with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night. T1D is a serious and stressful disease to manage. Treatment options are improving all the time, and people with T1D are able to lead normal, productive and inspiring lives. JDRF is driving research to improve the technology people with T1D use to monitor blood-sugar levels and deliver the proper doses of insulin, as well as research that will ultimately deliver a cure. The Health Care and Social Assistance sector comprises establishments providing health care and social assistance for individuals. The sector includes both health care and social assistance because it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the boundaries of these two activities. The industries in this sector are arranged on a continuum starting with those establishments providing medical care exclusively, continuing with those providing health care and social assistance, and finally finishing with those providing only social assistance. The services provided by establishments in this sector are delivered by trained professionals. All industries in the sector share this commonality of process, namely, labor inputs of health practitioners or social workers with the requisite expertise. JDRF’s research mission is to discover, develop and deliver advances that cure, better treat and prevent type 1 diabetes (T1D). As the global leader in the fight against T1D JDRF’s research programs are comprehensive — addressing the hopes and dreams of every person with T1D for the best quality of life and a cure for this disease. https://jdrf-kentucky.ejoinme.org/gala Alfred Gerriets II sponsor https://issuu.com/southcomm/docs/lnfoc_april16/60 fund for the arts Juvenile Diabetes Indiana The total estimated cost of diagnosed diabetes in 2012 is $245 billion, including $176 billion in direct medical costs and $69 billion in reduced productivity. The largest components of medical expenditures are: hospital inpatient care (43% of the total medical cost), prescription medications to treat complications of diabetes (18%), anti-diabetic agents and diabetes supplies (12%), physician office visits (9%), and nursing/residential facility stays (8%). People with diagnosed diabetes incur average medical expenditures of about $13,700 per year, of which about $7,900 is attributed to diabetes. People with diagnosed diabetes, on average, have medical expenditures approximately 2.3 times higher than what expenditures would be in the absence of diabetes. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D.
