Introducing the Altaeros BAT: The Next Generation of Wind Power
Altaeros Energies is announcing the first planned commercial demonstration of its BAT (Buoyant Airborne Turbine) product in partnership with the Alaska Energy Authority. The Alaska project will deploy the BAT at a height of 1,000 feet above ground, a height that will break the world record for the highest wind turbine in the world. Altaeros has designed the BAT to generate consistent, low cost energy for the remote power and microgrid market, including remote and island communities; oil & gas, mining, agriculture, and telecommunication firms; disaster relief organizations; and military bases. The BAT uses a helium-filled, inflatable shell to lift to high altitudes where winds are stronger and more consistent than those reached by traditional tower-mounted turbines. High strength tethers hold the BAT steady and send electricity down to the ground. The lifting technology is adapted from aerostats, industrial cousins of blimps, which have lifted heavy communications equipment into the air for decades. so it's a balloon with a wind turbine in it. dirigibles are prone to becoming untethered and fly off. what have they factored in this won't happen and that it will not blow away and crash into someones property.

Looks like a great idea for remote areas, disaster relief, and such. Doesn't look very lucrative for large scale wind energy.
-
i want to know about the air foil that was used for rotorof that BWT??
-
if the wind is so much more powerful ,how will you keep the lightweight structure holding the turbine, from collapsing ?
-
I would love to own one.

this idea is brilliant. its funny though, as soon as I saw a picture of this I instantly knew the implications, without any foreknowledge of electricity or turbines.. and I just said damn, this is a good idea! helium will last indefinitely if the materials are strong enough to avoid leakage and just have it tethered up the sky for months and years, generating free electricity! awesome.

Bird1: "Oh look what's that whole? I wonder what happens when i go through it."
Bird2: "Oh where is Bird1 going? Let's follow him." -
RESONANCE POWER IS THE ANSWER FOR OUR ENERGY DEMAND.

so much pseudo science bullshit.
-
But if the earth is flat won't it fall off the edge?
-
I'm not a great supporter of wind energy. An environmental disaster and produces very little energy when compared with the capital cost. However, at least they have one thing going for them, the turbine will last for a very long time. How long will this kind last?
-
I couldn't hear the music with all of those people talking over it.

Фантастически красивая штуковина!

полная хуета
-
How you lift it by Helium or hot air, and how much energy it will use for hot air.
-
I can put a turbine anywhere and a plane wont hit it. but a plane could hit this
-
If you sending them that high why not add flexible solar panels over cloud cover in tadom to produce more power for that matter thromal cup pole around your baring points will generate a few mor mildly amps too
-
is it long lasting ???
-
Good would a small jet crash in to this or small jet go more up on cloud
