In this first part in this introduction to Permaculture series at the IDEP facilities in Ubud, Bali, we first learn about the main idea of permaculture: use what you have to allow nature to provide abundance. This continues into a main principle of permaculture with the concept of synergistic growing: planting certain crops together to form guilds that support each other with nutrients above and below the surface. This is exemplified in the relationship between many legumes and rice crops.
