This has been raising storm over a hot cup of tea for sometime now----the world is moving towards organic tea, should India, one of the largest tea producing and consuming countries in the world, follow suit? Indian tea including the finest Darjeeling tea, which is often billed as the champagne of tea, has been fast losing ground to some other tea producing geographies like Kenya, Sri Lanka on quality issues. Although some of the leading tea producers in India have set out on the organic path, the movement has not been that fast and India is not being able to meet the growing global demands for organic tea. Tea Board of India, has now risen to the occasion to bring back the old glory of Indian tea, focussing on the quality issues and trying to foster the conversion into organic gardens. Speaking to Tea Board chairman, Saurav Bhattacharya of Calcalling reports how this can again be made cuppa that cheers!
