Indian Governement Files Biopiracy Lawsuit Against Monsanto
Representing one of the most agriculturally bio-diverse nations in the world, India has become a primary target for biotechnology companies like Monsanto and Cargill to spread their genetically-modified (GM) crops into new markets. However, a recent France 24 report explains that the Indian government has decided to take an offensive approach against this attempted agricultural takeover by suing Monsanto for "biopiracy," accusing the company of stealing India's indigenous plants in order to re-engineer them into patented varieties. Brinjal, also known in Western nations as eggplant, is a native Indian crop for which there are roughly 2,500 different unique varieties. Millions of Indian farmers grow brinjal, which is used in a variety of Indian food dishes, and the country grows more than a quarter of the world's overall supply of the vegetable. I would love it if you sent me seeds from a few or even all of the 2.500 varieties. I may not plant all of them but I would store them away.

India announced it planned to bring charges against Monsanto for violating the Biological Diversity Act last month, but has failed to do so. If India does bring the charges against Monsanto, it will be the first case in the world charging biopiracy as the basis for the lawsuit

In another head scratcher of a move, India’s government is threatening to file charges against Monsanto for allegedly breaking a moratorium on eggplant development. The case stems from Monsanto’s development of a genetically modified eggplant. It is not a crime in India to develop genetically modified foods. However, the country has a decade-old Biological Diversity Act, which makes it a crime to "steal” an indigenous crop and use it to create a modified version without permission

Monsterento and its fellow corporations now owns NATO forces. India may get attacked if this company's agenda is stopped. They wish India to be like Mexico where this company is currently destroying indigenous corn. But Russia, China and India may show a joint force to stop all this inhumane situation.

I have no problem with GM foods...the potential benefits are enormous. However, I HATE Monsato and their research/business practices. They're irresponsible, greedy, and power hungry. Their constant pursuit of agricultural dominance is disgusting.

Also watch Food Inc. that shows how Monsanto is putting American Farmers out of business. Wish that they would have mentioned the Monsanto GM effect in America. I will be praying for the Farmer's in India to win this battle.
