In the early 2000s, the world was gripped by fears of bird flu arising from China and Southeast Asia. Governments in these countries tried to quell further outbreaks by enacting a series of severe and far-reaching control measures. In this video, a team of Thai researchers and officials describes the effects of these policies on small poultry farmers, and how this project has helped these farmers guard against bird flu while improving their livelihoods. The Ecohealth Emerging Infectious Diseases Initiative was a global effort funded by IDRC, Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada, and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
