How we make comfrey green manure tea/organic fertiliser..
Decided to have a crack at making up some comfrey tea fertiliser again after seeing a few posts on different gardening group pages on Facebook lately.. We used to do this a lot years ago when we were renting using weed plants, pruning from veggie plants, comfrey leaves & chicken manure as well.. Decided to start making up the straight comfrey tea fertiliser as I think it will be a big benefit to the fruiting plants in the straw bale beds out the front.. Be warned though, this brew can get very pongy depending on what you add.. Hey Rob, thx for the video. To expand on Lenes question about aeration in comfrey tea, if it speeds up the process that's great. Do you think it would be of further benefit to add worm castings/compost & maybe a small bit of black strap molasses to aerated comfrey tea. To me, it just seems like that would be a perfect nutrient packed tea recipe since comfrey alone is great, but worm castings contain so many beneficial bacterias and microbe biodiversity. I have a decent sized worm farm and am planting 50 comfrey blocking 4 & 14 around the perimeter of my backyard for mulch and free fertilizer. My goal is to spend zero on amendments down the road. Take careHappy New Year

I understand you. You can use grass any type of weed or plant to produce this liquid. I've been telling people this for years on my channel. But they are gardeners out there. That is seen only use a certain plant unlike yourself. You're saying use plants. Which in my opinion is correct keep up the good work.

Why filter the tea instead of just watering it to the plant way it is

Hi I commented similar question to your other video about molasses with your seaweed video. I'm going to ask you this again. Can you add Epsom Salt, Unsulphured molasses, Seaweed plus Fish Extract to this. Or is that an over kill.

I got a white film on top of my comfrey tea, have any idea what this is?

Do you make nettle tea too?? Do you think the same method works for that too??
-
after you strain it , how long will it last , or should you use it all after you strain it.

compared to steeped compost tea , which is better compost tea or comfrey tea?
-
Does it harm fish? Can you just dump this into your fish tanks for AP? Please respond! I'm about to try it!

Excellent!! How frequently can you put it on the plants!?

Hi Rob
i have chicken manure thats been stewing in a bucket of water for about 4 weeks now.. i havent been mixing the water every few days..and its probably been about two weeks straight since i mixed it.. i'm a bit concerned about using it now.. will it be okay to use even though I haven't been introducing much oxygen exchange? -
Mine came out black and the smell was something else!!

Does it make any difference if you used pasteurized manure vs non pasteurized manure to make the tea?

I love your videos and thank you for posting. I'm a lazy gardener and I do not like to do unnecessary stuff unless its really worth my time, effort and resources. I have raised beds with fairly healthy home-composted soil. I've researched novel approaches like bio-char, rock dust and various forms of compost tea that I've rejected as not worthy of the investment (at least for me). Recently, I've become convinced that comfrey is the way to go and I'm trying (unsuccessfully so far) to find some.
In the event the I do obtain some comfrey, I'd be quite interested in seeing some clinical field trials to see if comfrey tea really does provide benefits worth my efforts. The theory (like those claimed for bio-char, rock dust and compost tea) all make sense. The bottom line though is showing whether its worth the effort.
Cheers. -
Oh! I wanted to ask you one important question. .17 Years ago, 17 years ago. I stuffed comfrey in a five gallon jug, completely sealed it . Then put it in my root cellar, totally dark in there. I just found the jugs. I haven't opened. Do you think, this would have gone bad. And do you think I should water it down and try it the seal has never been opened not even cracked ???? The question why? I was setting it up to make tincture.
