How To Prepare / Make Yerba Mate - Traditional

Make a slope of yerba mate in the gourd 2. add a splash of cold water to the "shallow" end of the yerba mate slope. 3. insert the bombilla (filter straw) firmly to the "shallow" end of the gourd. 4. pour hot water (between 70 - 80 deg Celcius) to the "shallow" end of the slope. Fill about 2/3 5. drink. top up once finished and pass on. continue this way until flavour is out.

Great informative video on mate preparation. I tried this traditional method for the first time. The tea was really strong at first. It became more drinkable later after some dilution. I found that after adding any water I was unable to maintain any slope of the mate in the cup. The tea was all mixed into the water. No problem though - I just sipped it through the bombilla. I understand that traditionally the mate is meant to be shared. How common is that?

Very well explained !!. Congrats. Did you taste the flavour of the "Canarias" yerba mate? (Brazilian yerba very popular in Uruguay). The other is "Rosamonte" or "Romance" (this last 2 from Argentina) and they taste very different... but very good. Regards from Bs.As. !

You killed your 'chimarrão" when you put lemon, sugar and other junk, just put 1 to 3 leaves of lemon grass depending on the size of the "cúia".
For the ones that getting "bomba" clogged has some types of disposable tissue condoms to prevent this from happening -
