How to Plant and Grow Turmeric

3. Thank you! I am just getting started with Turmeric & Ginger...hopefully I will be able to get it started indoors as we are coming into late autumn/winter months.
4. Planting corms on side is incorrect. The corms should be sown with the budding area facing UP and the top of the corm 2 inches below the surface. Ensure that the soil is not too heavy which will restrict growth.

6. a friend told me about the health benefits of Turmeric a few days ago and I went straight to my spice rack to see how much I had on hand, None which was a surprise so the next trip to the market I purchased a jar. I use it quit often when slow roasting pork or brisket and always when pickling. I dry tomatoes, garbanzo beans, onions and many other foods because I like knowing what is in my food. I use the garbanzo beans as a substitute for croutons on our salad and I've added turmeric as one of the spices for my recipe which has given them a completely new taste. Recipe: 6 cans of garbanzo beans, 1 tbl spn oil(I use olive oil), 2 tbl spn garlic powder, 1tble spn onion powder, 1 tspn and slat, pepper, 1 tbl spn turmeric, 2 tbl spn Italian seasoning(substitutes: basil, oregano, hickory, mesquite, apple wood). When I dry the garbanzo beans to about 85% so they don't get so hard that you need to re-hydrate them they still have a soft middle with a little crunch. I came here today to learn about growing turmeric. Thanks for the education.

11. It isn't TUMERIC! It is TURmeric! Not sure how you spell it correctly, and still pronounce it incorrectly.

17. Hi I wanted to find out about growing turmeric. With ginger
    I know that ginger is planted shallowly. the rhizome is hilled up to promote
    and lateral growth there is a hilling up of the ginger.From my experiences
    ginger grows up and laterally rather than down. Is the same technique to be
    applied for turmeric.
    
    Planted turmeric and just left it there for about 2 years
    and got a great harvest. Never hilled up. Turmeric seemed to grow down rather
    than up. What is your take on the planting procedure for turmeric. Regular
    watering seems to help promote rhizome and leaf production.
    Also ginger appears to like a confined space, can the same
    be said for turmeric.
