How to Make Hot Pepper Spray to Deter Garden Critters & Trapping Coons
I've been having trouble with raccoons eating my melons, and groundhogs eating the sweet potatoes. Trapping wasn't working, so I decided to mix up some pepper spray using Red Habeneros. I used about a dozen peppers, along with some garlic and dish liquid to make a nice critter deterrent. Make sure you don't use the good kitchen blender or the wife might get upset. You can find a cheap one at a yard sale that will work just fine. After getting the vegetables sprayed to deter the critters, I set the trap again for the raccoon. He got the marshmallows the first night, and didn't spring the trap. So I loosened the trap, added more marshmallows, and caught him the next night. He was released in a swamp behind the horse farm. When you are growing a garden, it is very important to learn the animals that are in your area. Coons, groundhogs, deer, squirrels, etc.....they can all do serious damage to your garden. How you decide to deal with them is a personal choice. But trapping and pepper spray are 2 very good options.

Awesome my friend!!! I have been vegetable and fruit gardening all my life-- and when you get out there in the hot sun and plow, get out the rocks, sticks,n weeds, water it, put fertilizer on it, and a lot more-- it is hard work!!!! I can tell by these comments the people who have never worked in a garden- If they did it just one spring, summer, and fall, and canned stuff- they wouldn't give a rat's behind if an animal went blind from getting a little bit of pepper spray in his eyes. That's his fault! He should stay away!!! These tree huggers value animal life and survival more than they do human life and survival! They don't care if you and your family don't get to eat, or don't reap the HARVEST of all your hard labor- there too worried about the animal eating and not getting hurt! I don't believe in animal cruelty at all-- but God gave man dominion over the animals; and he also gave us certain animals to eat!!! But the last time I checked, they do have to be dead before you can eat them! The South in America is like West and the North-
we are vastly becoming over populated with racoons, deers, and coyotes. Back in the 70s, all the way to about 2008, we didn't hear much about Racoons, foxes, ground hogs and coyotes being a nuisanceit was just mice, field rats, crows and deers. But since about 2009, there has been an explosion in the birth of Racoons n coyotes. The only way to balance the population is by safe and responsible hunting. Relocating in the city makes no sense with Racoons, and if we keep relocating them in the woods, eventually they will find their way right back to rural and urban populations because of our country being over populated with them-or over populated becuz the natural habitats of animals are being destroyed daily to make more room for illegal immigrants. The more people we let in our country illegally, the more land they will need to build them a house or business--therefore the wildlife has no home of its own!!! That's just common sense!!! American people and the animals are suffering becuz of our own ignorance. Nobody is making any more land! That's impossible!!! So, in my opinion, I think your being a little too nicebut I appreciate your post and videos. Thanks a lot! bjb -
Does the pepper spray have any effect on the produce/fruit/vegetables? Is there any pepper flavouring that gets into the produce?

He's sooo 💯!! I really like this guy, thanks

The thought of them getting the juice in their eyes.

I want and need to spray my plants. Do you know if this will get rid of bugs too? Does it hurt plants at all? Burn the leaves? Kill the plant?
Biggest problem is squirrels in attic. Too many around area to trap. Just removed nest w/8 babies, from below the a/c. Thought they were rats. Closet ceiling had mold and mildew from their excretion. They chewed through wires, tore up insulation for nesting.
I really want 'em dead! Hubby doesn't want me to kill them,. I need an alternative. Wondering if anyone thinks this may work? Maybe a light mist sprayed in attic, on windy day? No soffit, that's how they're getting up there. Lots of air flow on windy days.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated! GOD's blessings n take care. -
This video is the absolute truth!!!
I live in Michigan and am trying to keep squirrels off my sunflowers.
I saw a similar vid by some housewife (who didn't know what she was talking about) who used cayenne pepper. Then I read that cayenne is not even close to a habanero on the hot scale so I made a batch just like his.
I wish I had seen his video first because I made mine in the house. It's stronger than Mace, I had snot running down my face for 45 min and I was coughing and sneezing. All I could think of was; "I have heard of mustard gas that blisters your lungs and then you drown." " I was scared!!" one hour later I was ok....geez -
Thanks for sharing this info...will definitely give it a try... Just a suggestion. In India we generally oil our hands when handling spicy hot peppers... This protects your hands ...they do not cause burn discomfort 😀

paint your garden perimeter with racoon guts and skin, that should deter them.
-
How do you clean out the blender after it had hot peppers in it ?

thanks for the video 'o' believe it or not, i have an agreement with my groundhogs and coons to stay out of the garden that they honor, but the squirrel bastids are another story altogether...i have an exceptional tomato crop this year in NH and it's been a WAR > trying to stay ahead of them - it's always a quandary as to whether to leave that prize beauty or leave it 1 more night, in which case the squirrel always wins. so i'm hoping that a pepper spray will help even things out some. i did try sprinkling a bunch of pretty hot cayenne powder directly on the tomatoes and around the base of the plant but the little devils apparently took it to be a fine seasoning for their tomato salad 'o'

Thank you so much for this, I saw two squirrels in my garden yesterday, so I will be making some repellent today!
-
Awesome video. You did the humane thing in capture and release. God bless you also.
-
What happened to the coon??
-
How often do I spray? Will it hurt my plants?
-
You are wonderful, thank you, wish I were your neighbor.

Critters keep digging in my damn garden
-
Have groundhog under concrete porch. Only one way in and out. Might try this. What about putting ammonia on a rag at the entrance?
-
be careful because hot sauce will kill plants. If you let hot sauce sit on broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage it will kill the leaves and you will have dead brown spots where the hot sauce sat.

felt sorry for the little guy and like others have said, glad no harm was done.
