How to make Compost tea with Compost Cage & Worm Farm update.
Had a few requests to look at the compost, how we're using it at the moment & the worm farm so thought I'd do a 3 in one clip for you all. Both the compost & worm farm are looking great & am very pleased with the results I'm getting with the compost tea in the patch. Will worms native to Canada eat tropical fruits and veggies? I live in Canada and got my starter worms for my farm wild in my backyard.

do you think a old chest freezer would work well for making compost/worm tea? it would keep temprature stedy.

I've been looking into the science of compost tea, specifically the people who say that compost tea doesn't actually improve the bacteria in the soil. I think I would still use it to, as you do, spread a small amount of compost over a large amount of space, though.

Do you live in Australia?

Great video showing health soils means little to no pest damage , Broccoli was a splendid example :-)

Good one RobBob. Used my first lot of new compost yesterday - ridiculously happy with it. Black gold!

Does the heat from the composting process kill off your worms? With my compost pile, I do have a lot of worms on the outside few inches where its cooler but the center of the pile stays about °150 F. I'm amazed any worms survive when I turn the pile. I do pull my worms out as I find them to distribute around the garden beds. Thanks for your vids!

thanks for sharing all you have learned from your experiences. Do you have a drain in the tub worm compost bin? I would like to set up a bigger bin like that. I have ran into trouble with my bins being to wet and smelly even though I have drain holes.

This just made my day. I got to hear Kookaburras laughing, see a baby worm born, and how loofas come into the world. I have seen many worm cocoons and never knew what I was looking at and would wonder, "What ARE those things?!" But they look vulnerable and at least I knew I should leave them alone. Thank you, Rob Bob!

A question Rob, and a comment. Comment first, great video. I'll be using the vast majority of these ideas once I can start getting my own honest to goodness garden going, keep up the great work.
The question is, I know you had a rather big problem with nematode earlier in your video series, and were using marigold to help clear out the infestations, but haven't mentioned any problems with them recently. Have you managed to get the infestations beat back, and thus no longer have any problems with them? I've been running with that as an assumption, but everyone knows what happens when one assumes. You also haven't talked much about the local fruit flies recently, though I'm assuming that particular problem is more pernicious and difficult to permanently eliminate. Any trouble with them of late, and how do you deal with other insect invaders, beyond catching and feeding to the birds? -
Always nice to watch your videos!

I'm about to create a worm farm in bathtub great to see how it works in practice Thanks the videos !

WoW just how cold is it over there in ozland? your winter fur is growing a fair bit now :P

You seem to save every worm you can! Do you have overpopulation issues at some point? Or does it all seem to all work itself out?
-
Thanks so much for sharing your gardening/composting/worming operations & ideas... Looking great ! Trying to do a lot of the same things here ... sifting through my compost to help save some of the worms/cocoons... got Tons of them, but never enough! Cheers & Happy Gardening!

You can just aerate the water for 12 hours to remove chlorine with a handfull of compost, molasses or a teaspoon of ascorbic acid which neutralizes chlorine and chloramine. Then add your main mix for the tea. Or let it sit for 24hours if you don't have an air pump. Unless you use Ascorbic acid i think that neutralizes them instantly.
