How afternoon tea could save the world | Jane Malyon | TEDxChelmsford
The great British tradition of Afternoon Tea, with its rituals and manners, is loved the world over. However, it represents much more than just tasty scones, sandwiches and cakes. Afternoon Tea is a masterclass in all that is best in consideration, rapport, sharing and caring. Jane Malyon lives in Essex with husband Roger – and their two grown sons now live in Canada. Whilst co-running their catering company and Tudor venue, Jane has also been an NLP master practitioner helping people to communicate and build rapport well. Four years ago she created The English Cream Tea Company delivering chilled Afternoon Tea hampers and picnics UK wide (www.englishcreamtea.com) plus delicious postable goodies and branded preserves/teas for export/retail. Claims to fame include books e.g. ‘Play Nicely (Best Behaviour in Business)’, BBC TV and a Guinness World Record for the largest English Cream Tea party ever! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Very nice Maam,
Well said..I got many finer points of your subject...we r loosing these interactions in wifi world. thanks for eye opening.. -
Wonderful idea. Braking bread and having a bit of tea to wash away the hate.
-
I've never even really had fake tea parties as a little girl. Still I would love to have Americanized tea parties with hot coco and coffee in the winter. Iced tea and lemonade in the summer. Maybe next year when I transfer colleges again. Or maybe this summer with my family if I can arrange it somehow.

very interesting concept-anything positive would be worth trying!

Refreshing thought...She's right we can't hate the people who share food with us..
-
I do wish she'd pronounce scones properly
-
Quite nice.
P.S - We can share any "idea" on TED :-P -
You must see "Tea time" the documentary

The key thing that afternoon tea provides is a chance for commutation.

British mindset?

This is perhaps the most intelligent idea I've heard in quite some time. Sit. Calmly hand round teacups. Nice big ones with floral prints on them. Have milk, lemon and sugar, possibly some honey on the table. A large pot full of Lady Grey. And piles and piles of little tasty sarnies and trays full of gooey squares and delectable cupcakes. Gigantic linen napkins in laps. Huge, cushiony armchairs to lean back in. And this is dreadfully important: the total absence of cell phones. There are to be zero interruptions for two hours. Except for the bringing in of more tea and yummies.
At the end of two hours, world peace will break out. -
This is possibly the most British TedxTalk in history
