Gun sales boom in Pakistan arms bazaar
The Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) official becomes international law on Wednesday, which establishes for the first time global rules to stop the flow of weapons and munitions to countries where they could be used to commit serious human rights violations. However, it does nothing about the hundreds of millions of guns already in circulation worldwide. At Peshawar's Karkhano Market, for instance, anyone can find antique Enfields used by British troops in World War I, Soviet AK-47s from the 1980s, and M-16s stolen from NATO warehouses in Afghanistan. Experts fear that many of these weapons wind up in the hands of Taliban fighters. Al Jazeera's Kamal Hyder reports from Peshawar, Pakistan. Pakistan has gun laws but they are very lax. If your living in a city in Pakistan, u need a gun licence with no reason required. U are usually given ur licence after 3 weeks since it's fairly easy to pass and after that u can own almost any firearms, including fully automatic guns.
Maybe the Americans should move to Pakistan since the liberals will probably take over. -
this place is my paradise , guns guns and more guns!

Don't give up your guns pakistanis!

This person Kamal Haider is actually Pakistan's ISI agent inserting pro-Pakistan-Army propaganda into his news coverage. He is also a drug addict (charsi) and that habit keeps him to be on payroll of that shadowy intelligence agency for money.
-
How would you be able to make it to that area when the Paki-Punjabi army has blocked it to all others? We know that you are an agent of Paki-Punjabi army Mr. Kamal Haider. And you are a drug addict as well.

Does anyone else find it funny that most of these weapons were stolen from soldiers who tried to attack Afganistan?
-
I love guns! Fuck anyone else who doesn't!

There should be background checks.

I remember being in Peshawar back in the early 1980's. Back then, it was mostly old American weapons, as well as the AK-47...the standard for most militants in that part of the world. Rebuilding, duplicating, or simply refurbishing guns is a real craft in that part of the world.

LOCAL HOSPITALITY INCLUDES KILLING KIDS....

Kamal Hyder, as usual good informed, with passion making the story interesting because he often shows also a piece of local culture and customs. He also lacks the air of; "I'm better than you, I've studied and traveled" seen so often by international reporters.

Thank you for history lesson Uncle Mirza, kasmiri doodh pathi must hit the spot

The cause of all these problems goes back to the US invasion of Afghanistan, which labelled tribal Pashtuns as terrorists....and took away much of their traditional power to govern their own lands. These are people who were simply protecting their lands from foreign invasion.....and they were criminalized for it. If it wasn't for that US invasion and the ensuing drone strikes in Pakistan, the traditional way of life would have continued, without the massive upheaval and destabilization which has occurred. Pakistan is caught between a rock and a hard place, with pressure from the US....illegal bombing by the US....while the retaliation ends up being against innocent Pakistanis...or innocent Afghans often...
If you don't go back to the source, this problem will NEVER be resolved....until the US gets the hell out of the region and STOPS interfering. -
That WW1 Lee Enfield rifle looks great for such an old gun.

Guns are anti-life. The US govt should stop pumping guns to the Middle East.
