This was actually the premise for a research paper that I wrote back in 2010/2011. I was looking at the extent which Gullah culture influenced white culture in the South Carolina Lowcountry, and the South in general. If anybody's interested in reading it, it's called 'Da Gullah een da Buckra': The Development of Gullah Language and Foodways and its Influence on White Culture in the South Carolina Lowcountry - https://www.academia.edu/5329482/Da_Gullah_een_da_Buckra_The_Development_of_Gullah_Language_and_Foodways_and_Its_Influence_on_White_Culture_in_the_South_Carolina_Lowcountry

Being an African I can honestly say I am very proud of the Gullah for keeping their heritage. I am based in South Africa, and the music is so similar to ours which is a clear indication that the Gullah have held on to their African rhythm and culture.

One of the best videos I've seen on West Africans, also known as "Geechee", as mother said we were, as people of Georgetown County, South Carolina, Georgia and coastal Sea Islands:) It's okay to say the word "Geechee" or I'm "Geechee". The language is Gullah, said to be from the Gola people of West Africa, as researched and described by Lorenzo Dow Turner, a black intellectual, near 100 years ago.
