Green Energy News http://MrEnergyCzar.com This is Green Energy News, I'm your host MrEnergyCzar. We're covering electric cars, renewable energy, the environment, Peak Oil and everything in between. • Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/MrEnergyCzar.PeakOil • Twitter: https://Twitter.com/MrEnergyCzar • Audi will finally be offering a plug-in hybrid. The next Audi A4 will offer the plug-in option. The next A4 will be using a new lighter weight chassis. • The Mercedes S-Class will also be offering a plug-in hybrid. This no compromise plug-in will offer over 400 horsepower and will deliver about 78 mpg. It remains to be seen if Mercedes can take a piece of Tesla's luxury plug-in sales pie. • In China, about half the rice in the city of Guangzhou is contaminated with Cadmium. Ingesting Cadmium could damage the liver, kidneys and cause cancer. One of the obvious links may be the polluting factories and mines that operate right next to rice patties. Pollution is now the number one cause of social unrest in China. • In Italy, solar generated power has set a new record for the country. Solar accounted for over 7% of Italy's electricity generation. In the states it's about one tenth of one percent. In Italy, fossil fuel power production decreased while overall renewables increased. • Wind energy has already reached cost parity with new coal power production in India. India's renewable energy mix makes up about 6% of the total grid. In about four years, solar power will also reach parity with coal in India. Since coal power uses a lot of water, it causes issues in the dry season. This is one reason renewables have grown there. • The U.S. bike sharing fleet has doubled this past year. The U.S. has over 30 bike sharing programs in cities throughout the country. New York City has the largest program in the country with 6,000 bikes available at over 300 locations. The bike sharing programs are benefiting from the early after effects of Peak Oil. Notably, high gas prices and many young people not being able to afford to own a car.
