Grapes have become South Korea's first home-grown fruit given a long-awaited entry pass into the choosy Chinese fresh food market. Shipping five tons of "Geobong"grapes to China, South Korea's fruit farmers marked their first-ever export of fresh fruit to the country. The South Korean Agriculture Ministry said on Tuesday that the shipped batch of grapes is branded "Haneul Green"grown in the central city of Cheonan. Haneul Green was shipped to Taiwan and Vietnam earlier this month, reflecting its popularity in the Asian market. The first shipment of the Korean Geobong grapes to China came after six years of negotiations with Chinese authorities, which started in May 2009, according to the ministry. China has been the world's largest food market since it overtook the United States in 2013. The Seoul ministry also said bilateral negotiations to trade other Korean agricultural products to China are under way.
