Gotu Kola Benefits for the Brain, the Nerves and Varicose Veins
Gotu kola is an Ayurvedic herb that is particularly replenishing and rejuvenating for the nervous system. Also known as a "brain tonic" for increasing mental focus and memory. It is one of the great medicinal adaptogens and rasayana herbs used for centuries in both Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Indian Herbal System of Ayurveda. FEW PEOPLE KNOW IT YET, but Gotu Kola will grow and re-seed in North America, at least as far north as Northern Ohio. If you first obtain some plants and plant them out in a bed after danger of frost, the vines soon begin to take over, growing thick enough that most other wild plants will not grow through as weeds. So you'll wind up with an amazingly, thick bed of Gotu Kola. Once the vines become widespread, you may harvest the green leaves continuously during the warm season. During this time, the flowers are not very noticeable, but will be there to develop seeds that will drop onto the ground. The plants will survive fairly chilly weather, but eventually will die back. Before the brutal cold and snow arrives, mulch your Gotu Kola bed with several inches of leaves, straw, or what have you. This should help the seeds survive over winter. Also bring some of the living plants inside, attempting to keep them alive during the winter. This is pretty easy if they get a bit of sunlight. In the spring, you should plant the potted plants back into the bed, where they will begin spreading. As they flourish, you will also notice new plants growing from last year's seed. We've been doing this for four years so far. I was surprised upon first seeing the new plants from seeds. Replanting overwintered clumps in your bed is advised because the tiny seedlings take longer to mature to usable size.

Gotu Kola is the best medicine for lots of health problems. I am using this for quite some time now. In fact, I planted a whole section of this plant in the garden at my apartment!

I think I'd like to grow it. I've been adding this to my hand mixed herb tea to improve my nerves and arm function and I'm feeling better than I have in a long while. I think if I continue, which I definitely will, I could be like a different person in a year or so. Which is amazing since it has taken 20+ years to get to the damage I have now.
