Fruit Production in Hazara,Pakistan

Hazara Division grows a fair share of the crops of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. This is because of the climatically correct conditions, rich alluvial soil and the presence of a proper irrigation system in many areas. Although all five districts grow fruits, the Haripur district tops the list in fruit production. The geographical position and climate of Haripur is such that it is ideal for the growth of both summer crops and winter crops. Because of the warm climate, you can also find mangoes and bananas in the district. Citrus fruits are abundantly grown here because of the warm temperature. One variety of citrus Haripur is especially famous for is the Red Blood Malta. The red streak in the oranges is due to the irregular pigmentation present in the fruit. Fine quality of guava is also grown here. Loquat is cultivated all over the Hazara division; in Haripur it is one of the main fruits grown in the region. Loquat is an oval shaped fruit which grows in clusters. A special variety of this fruit found only in Japan and China is found in Haripur. Lychee is another fruit commonly grown in Haripur. Some other fruits widely cultivated all over Hazara are apples, plums, peaches, apricots and pears. Good qualities of pears and peaches are grown here. Different varieties of plums can also be found in many places in Hazara especially Haripur. Abbottabad district is famous for its sweet tasting juicy apples. You will also find apple orchards in many places in Hazara such as Mansehra district, Haripur and Battagram. Cherries and olives are grown mainly in Mansehra and Abbottabad. The olives grown here were initially of an inferior quality but the government is taking steps to improve the quality and quality grown here. Black and red amluk (a kind of citrus fruit) is grown in the upper valleys of Mansehra. Good quality of apricots is found in the region where water content in the soil is low. Dry fruits like almonds and walnuts are found everywhere in Hazara. The fruits produced here are of export quality and are sent abroad as well as to other parts of the country. Hazara makes an important contribution in the country's economy.
