Majuli is one of the largest islands in the world having an area of 880 sq km. Its a flood and erosion prone area, almost every year it is inundated by the river Bramhaputra. But people are not leaving the island. It is a biodiversity hot spot having many flora and fauna; indigenous crop varieties. Pollution free environment would enchant you.Apart from medium land paddy, it has now more than 50 deep water folk paddy varieties grown organically with newly deposited silt of Bramhaputra. They are getting a grain yield of 2.5-3.5 ton / ha along with different fish and it is with zero input .Crops are disease and pest free, nutritious and tasty, low cost of production, small amount enough to feed an adult- early satiety rice. We need to conserve the pristine environment of Majuli. Mr Debjit Borah of Majuli is speaking about the rice in Assamese in Oct 2013.
