Kanai was just a traditional farmer of Chandkhali village in Canning, West Bengal. He had some land and a very small ditch at one corner. The land was mono-cropped with rice in Kharif and the small ditch was used mostly for washing and other domestic purposes as well as a little fish cultivation. With the initiatives of NAIP Shri Mridha adopted integrated farming since 2010. NAIP helped him renovate his small ditch for integrated farming. Now he is cultivating improved varieties of rice. His farm products are sold directly from his farm or in the local market. He has increased his annual income from a meagre Rs.3500 to Rs.22000. Many farmers from nearby villages often visit his integrated multipurpose farm making Kanai feel very proud.
