Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture: Good Practice in Crop Production Fallow cropping is a conventional practice observed and practiced in the low elevation rice producing areas. The cycle of rice-fallow allows for clean cultivation and allows the land to maintain moisture for the next cropping cycle. Land during fallow period can be optimized for crops that require low tillage. Garlic is an ideal crop that requires low tillage and minimal or no land preparation at all. Garlic can be directly thumb-pushed 1 - 2 inches deep to the ground or directly to where the rice was harvested. The introduction of garlic after rice provides a safety net to household to survive occasional crop failures due to erratic climate patterns.
