Do Greens Grown in Rock Dust Taste Better?
My wife Karen and I love greens, and we've been enjoying the kale and collards from this year's garden for the past several weeks. The best looking greens in the garden are definitely in our field trial beds where we're testing rock dust and biochar against a control. Now that the kale and collards are in their prime, I thought it would be a good time to do a taste test to see if we can taste a difference between the rock dust greens and the control group greens. We'll also include the biochar greens in the test. One Yard Revolution is all about growing a lot of food on a little land using sustainable organic methods, while keeping costs and labor at a minimum. Emphasis is placed on improving soil quality with compost, mulch, and compost tea. No store-bought fertilizers, soil amendments, pesticides, compost activators, etc. are used. I wonder what all the ingredients together would taste like in the fruits and veggies

I was under the impression that using biochar was to allow it to set in a compost pile to absorb the nutrients into the multi surface areas of the charred wood. I think it should be that all of these methods should be used together not as a competition with each other. They tend to work synonymously as a symbiotic unit. thnx so much for sharing your test/videos

Fascinating mate. Many rock dust trials I've seen don't factor in that soil biology is required to first absorb the minerals. Would love it if you kept the trial going a couple of years ( to some degree).

I wondered too if rockets actually made a difference. Did those vegetables grow better too?

Great info. Looking forward to seeing how the tomato taste test goes. Thanks for posting this.

Interesting results there.. Thanks for sharing them :-)

I watched this earlier but forgot to comment. Really interesting and glad you did this test. Glad I finally got a small bag of rock dust and I hope it helps to improve my garden soil. HOpe I can see some results that are even half of what you are experiencing.

I wish rock dust was more available. I may order a few bags for next years garden. Nice experiment.

Ranking is best done by brixing them. Mineral and taste go together. cheers

I wonder if next year you could do a test with Biochar and Rock Dusk together then taste against just each individually. I'm particularly curious to see if you can tell the difference in taste between Biochar only and Biochar & Rock Dust. Thank you for the video!

Great I love the idea of blind taste test. You should have the misses perform the same taste to see if she gets similar results as well. Interesting that biochar made stuff bitter. Thanks for sharing as always.

Well that was interesting Patrick so maybe I will buy more rock dust next year.

Nice video and a well done taste test. Thanks for the update.

I have a question. At my local Agway all they could get was granulated Azomite and not the Rock dust. Will this work just as well? It looks like little pieces of multiple color rock pebbles with a slight fertilizer chemical smell. But its from the Same company . Just different consistency

Nice that you have done the homework for us. :) Great video, thank you.

Interesting, Patrick! Thanks for sharing your experiment results! Will look forward to hearing about how your tomatoes and other veggies fare in a few weeks! The idea of rock dust definitely resonated with me when I heard about it. Your greens are looking luscious! :)

I'm also surprised at the apparent difference. Glad you posted this Patrick.

Please run a test with : sea mineral or ocean water foliar sprayed ... that should result no. 1 ; I should think. love your garden..

Absolutely tasty episode my friend :)

What a great test. I like how you put this together. Thanks for sharing.
I too have noticed a big difference in flavor now that have have started using more minerals and rock dust. Only using NPK really doesn't make great tasting food. the wider spectrum of minerals you put in the better.
