DF 704 Chinese tractor pt1
This is a 70 hp tractor from Dong Feng out of China. There's not much info on line about this size of DF tractor, so I wanted to put something out there for people interested in a new tractor to start with. I'm not pro-China or anti-American, it's just info so people can make an informed decision. It's brand new, only about 12 hours on it now, so take it for what it's worth. I had it plugged in for 45 minutes and it started with out issue.

Dongfeng, Foton, YTO, Jinma all chinese cost-effective tractors

DF and FOTON are different company, how is the tractor working in your side now?
-
I wouldn't even think about considering one of those tractors.

wellfare
-
ill do you all a favor of telling you not to buy one buy a john deere or a ford or new holland
-
you might want to consider tire chains all around that would help your traction alot .

For anyone who has ever used anything that requires pre heating you will know that an 11 second heat will NEVER start in that kind of temperatures, try heating for no LESS than 20 seconds I would go for 25 to 30 seconds

please update in one year . cheap junk. is cheap junk

My tractor would have started
-
a balespike and a round bale on the 3pt would help with weight to and i have looked at a 70hp foton and they are cheaper than a df for some reason a i have heard of these tractors running 7000 hours

Shuttle shift, to DF, means every gear can be used in forward or reverse. You have to come to a stop before shuttling between forward and reverse. You have to clutch any time you want to shift, but you can start out in any gear you want. Syncromesh means the transmission will adjust the gear RPM to match the engine speed when shifting, so you don't have to rev the engine just right or double clutch while shifting. So I have 4 gears and 3 speed ranges (or 12 speeds) in forward and reverse.

Can you say what type of transmission this machine has and how it works? Doesn't matter how many times I read how a synchromesh/syncroshuttle transmission works, I still don't get it. Can you start out in 6th gear if you want or have to work your way up from 1st? Do you have to be stationary to change gears? When do you use a clutch?

We're using it for tilling (breaking pasture sod), moving hay bales (1300-1800 lbs), carrying the water tank to water horses (2000-2500 lbs), plowing snow, moving rocks... just general farm chores. For what we use it for I'd say it's the smallest tractor we could get by with. I'd rather have 90 hp or at least a much heavier tractor. I'm looking at putting fluid in the rear tires to add another 1000 lbs of weight back there for when I carry particularly heavy loads with the FEL.

what do you use this tractor for?
-
Yes, as far as I know Foton is the same as Devon. Foton and Devon are both made by DongFeng in China. Each distributor can call it whatever he wants but they're both DF. So far it's been a pretty good tractor. Have almost 50 hours on it now. The bale forks had to go so I welded up a stronger set and now have a Chinese tiller on the back. I'll have to make a part 2 to this video to update on what I've found so far.
