Destruction of the Gudgeonville Bridge - November 8, 2008
Arsonists destroyed the 140 year old Gudgeonville Covered Bridge in Girard Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania. West County firefighters made a good stop, but the bridge is too heavily damaged to be salvaged. If you have information as to the responsible parties, please contact the Pennsylvania State Police at (814) 774-9611. Special thanks go out to the Platea Volunteer Fire Co, the A.F. Dobler Hose and Ladder Co, and all the mutual aid departments that did their best to save this structure. Gudgeonville Covered Bridge 1868 - 2008 R.I.P.

i am deeply saddened by this terrible travesty. the bridge has been condemned. they plan on tearing it down. it will not be rebuilt for a long time, years probably. and when it is it won't be a replica. it will most likely be a regular concrete bridge. a crane will be needed to lift the concrete parts. estimated cost of 3 million. hopefully the state will help out the town of girard with costs. if so then girard would have to pay 5% of it.

thanks for posting. I hope they rebuild with similar design.
