Since you own some piece of land there, you'd easily do it methinks. Exercise, fresh vegetables, saving money, independence - awesome.

No rice!? What do y'all eat? Rice was a staple of my second wife's culture, too. And you can make it into ropes, clothing, paste or housing. :)

Ahyup. And since her larynx had been removed, she spoke in a strange, click-whisper style that sounded like "ka co ca ke ka kok."

Yeah, I was a preschooler. Saw her once when I was 8 or 9, too.

It was kind of like watching a sword swallower in reverse. :)

She would pull a curved metal tube out of the hole in her throat periodically to clean it. I was mesmerized.

Yeah, but I didn't meet her until she was retired and smoked cigarettes through a metal hole in her throat.

Yeah, he didn't have much formal education. Interesting how in those days you could just take one of your children out of school to work in the family business. Main things I remember about him were his huge nose and THICK French (Cajun) accent. :)
