Crawfish Farming in South Louisiana~The Basics
My husband & I started Crawfish Farming this year. We started out with basic equipment & used traps. We own lots of farm land & since this was not being farmed for any other crops we decided to give it a try. Crawfish are found naturally on our land but in some areas you can buy Baby crawfish to "Seed" a field for later harvesting. I did lots of the workings in the ponds daily since my husband has a full time job. I enjot being outdoors in the boat, on the 4 wheeler or even the tractor. I learned lots of new skills with these adventure also. I look forward to next year when we will be increasing our amount of traps. I love eating Boiled Crawfish, along with Potatoes, Corn & whole onions. Also we clean the crawfish for the tail meat to use all year long in Casseroles, Cornbread, Etouffee, etc. This is just another way of providing food for our family & many others around us. I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into Crawfish farming & life down in South Louisiana. I created this video with the YouTube Video Editor (http://www.youtube.com/editor)

If that's all the crawfish you get from each trap, either you're doing something wrong, or you better find a different hobby. That's pathetic! You didn't even get enough for a meal.
As to grading, when you only have 10 or so crawfish, it really shouldn't be that hard! "These 5 go here, and these 5 go there! Done!" -
Thanks, looking forward to them!

Thank You for the very kind words. So happy that I could show some of what we do for others who may have no clue. I know I enjoy seeing what others do in their areas. Yes we are very blessed to have this land passed on from my husband's parents. A very good source of food that I really love to eat. I was able to shoot some more vids of crawfish grading, etc so will be posting those shortly. Funny how before we farmed we had Crawfish Boils often~now not so often~so busy. LOL Will vid next one tho.

That is so great, thanks for sharing such cool info and details! I never knew how crawfish were caught and stuff, and real nice to know. You all are fortunate to have the land and resources to get such great food, congratulations! Keep the videos coming, and a crawfish eating would be nice too :)

I know. I was quite disappointed & basically the season is coming to an end. But if we catch another day before the season ends~then I will do a video & upload it. If not then next season which will start in Dec-June I will be sure to do some better videos. I can do a quick video on the piece of equipment we use when I get out to the farm. Thanks for the interest & commenting.

Aww, I hate that part didn't show up. I've wondered how they're graded and sorted. Thanks for the video though :)
