Conservation Agriculture and mechanization ‘Suitable Machinery’ – a climate-smart approach by Theodor Friedrich, FAO Dr. Theodore Friedrich continues his presentation, talking about the role of controlled traffic farming to avoid soil compaction. In Conservation Agriculture, harvesting also has the combined function of preparing the soil for the next crop, by leaving and preparing residue. Friedrich argues that minimum soil disturbance does not preclude Conservation Agriculture from the farming as the tuba and root vegetables which can in fact be harvested with minimal soil disturbance using Conservation Agriculture methods. Intercropped species can be mechanized also, and there is room for the development of new technologies for intercropping. © FAO: http://www.fao.org www.fao.org/climatechange/micca/
