Really interesting example of a difference in perspectives. Never would have thought cockroach farming would be so profitable...

I wonder what species are being kept? Either way as long at the roaches are being kept in relatively clean housing, fed good food, and cooked before eating they should be fine for human consumption (after all, crickets and grasshoppers, which are distantly related to roaches, are eaten in many parts of the world).
I mean hell, keeping roaches as feeders for pet lizards, tarantulas, etc is already catching on in the states, though as far as I know only exotic species are used (not pest roaches like German roaches). -
Interesting.

What the hell,,,....!!!

To be fair, most Chinese restaurants are probably like this.
-
Nope.

let's burn!

Damn cockroaches as food. It seems that China may be trying to make up for a food supply problem or something like that.
-
Haha, I feel you on that one!
-
that will explain why chinese restaurants are teeming with the critters

i can't even look at the big barrel of roaches without wriggling in my chair.

Most insects have very moderate or no smell at all with the exception of the ones that use their smell as a deterrent or as a weapon. That is also valid for their excrement, they have nothing on how bad humans and their feces can smell. Attics and basements tend to not be the cleanest places, you are more likely to smell the moldy rotting smell of whatever humans left in a damp environment. Obviously these farms won't smell like roses but I doubt it's even half as bad as you'd imagine.

I can't imagine how bad those places smell... You ever went into a attic or a basement where theres roach poop everywhere? Ugh... lol
