Chinese state media urges leniency to farmer’s death sentence
State-controlled media in China is supporting a campaign to spare the life of a farmer who has been sentenced to death. Ja Jing-long was convicted of killing a village head, who had ordered the demolition of his home. The highest court approved Ja's execution last week, but now two newspapers have questioned the sentence and urged leniency. Without knowing the full details of the story, I won't rush to a judgement. Yes, there were bad government officials and developers who gave bad conditions to people affected by construction. However, there were numerous cases where local residents try to squeeze more money from the government by being the last person not agreeing to move, thus not only affecting the construction but also affecting others who have agreed. Both cases are disgusting and we need to know which this story fits in.

I don't understand why he deserves leniency. He kills and gets the death penalty. Others are corrupt, didn't kill anyone and so get life imprisonment. All harsh penalties, but in a harsh system, this doesn't look very unfair.
