Chinese Firm to Challenge Obama's Wind Farm Ban

A Chinese-owned company says it will go to court over its rights to own wind farms in Oregon. That comes after US President Barack Obama blocked the company's wind farm project last Friday. President Obama cited national security concerns when he issued an executive order to stop Delaware-based Ralls Corp from owning four wind-farm projects. The wind farms are either in or near the restricted air space of a naval weapons training facility. The case follows rising concerns over Chinese investment in the US. But it's the first time in more than two decades that a US President has stopped a foreign-owned project in this way. Ralls is backed by Sany Group, a Chinese construction machinery conglomerate. According to CNN, the company said Obama's decision was unconstitutional, saying it violates the protection of property ownership and legal process. The US Treasury Department said today that the President's decision, made under the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, cannot be reviewed by the court system—effectively making any Ralls lawsuit a moot point.
