Grandfather's Diary: Chinese Farmers' Calendar One day, by chance, a little boy found his grandfather's diary. In this diary his grandfather had written about how he farmed according to the 24 Solar Terms of China which had been passed on for hundreds of years from ancient Chinese farmers. This discovery prompted the boy to remember the times he spent with his grandfather, who had passed away years ago, and also to find out about stories of how the 24 solar terms were used in farming and the deep culture behind the stories of his grandfather. The Author and Illustrator: Jian Zhi Qiu Jian Zhi grew up in the Taiwanese countryside. His passion and love for his home town has made him a keen observer of his surroundings and he uses his brushes to record the changes and impacts that modern prosperity has brought to the countryside and to record the beauty of the old times in his paintings. Jian Zhi enjoys the freedom to use his skills to preserve beautiful moments from the past. When he has time, he likes to explore on his bike with a pen and a sketchbook and to develop his drawing skills on his cycling trips. Rain-Process-Approach Joint Exhibition 2010 provided Jian Zhi a good opportunity to show his work with other two artists to the public in the Cultural Affairs Bureau in the local government of his hometown. Jian Zhi is now trying to use interesting and appealing story and illustrations to show how farmers applied the 24 solar terms in agriculture in traditional Chinese culture.
