Chinese Farmer Builds $700 Working Submarine
A villager in Anhui province, China, name Zhang Shenwu has built a working submarine for 5000 RMB, or about 700-800 dollars. What's more amazing is that he did it in only two month while working on it only about 2 hours per night. The submarine is 6 meters long (18 feet) and weighs 2 tons and can dive more than 1 meter (3 feet). Mr. Zhang was inspired by what he saw on TV. Farmers and villagers in China have long been known to be innovative and imaginative and Mr. Zhang is no different. I'm fascinated by the number of farmers who are coming up with these amazing machines! Is it possible that China's single-minded focus on book learning in school and test scores is leaving behind the people who's minds are more mechanically inclined? They don't do well in the test-score focused environment and end up not going forward with their education and find themselves on farms with the space and autonomy to tinker, perhaps? Interesting!

I would take a ride but only with fail safe scuba gear just in case it sinks and floods the interior. thats fun stuff, do they do it as a hobby or do they do it as a contest? I always wanted to build one when I was a kid. submarines are fascinating.

its not really a submarine if it can only dive 1 meter down. a real submarine is expensive due to the materials used to withstand the high pressure deep down the ocean, and of course all the expensive equipments inside. To say that this guy has built a submarine for only a few hundred dollars is an insult to the technology used to built submarine. Im not even going to start about how flawed this submarine is.
