They use it for medicinal as well as social purposes. Tea plays an important role in the Chinese culture. So where does Chinese tea come from? Well, that is something that dates back to as early as five thousand years ago. Some people say that the first tea originated in 2730 BC while others say it was more like 350 BC. Either way, Chinese tea has a long standing in the Chinese culture. The Chinese are known to take tea post-meal. This is thought to be part of the reason the Chinese started drinking tea in the first place, to aid in digestion. The roots of tea drinking are mostly medicinal and today have evolved into something that allows for social gathering and talking after a meal. There are many different types of Chinese tea. It is not limited to a single type of tea though all come from the same plant, the Camilla sinensis bush. This one bush provides hundreds of different varieties of Chinese tea. Chinese tea has four main types. The first is white tea. White tea is said to have the highest level of health benefit of any tea. This type of tea utilizes the buds of the Camilla Sinensis bush before they have bloomed into maturity. The second type of tea is green tea. Green tea is becoming much more popular among the Western countries now, but finds its origin in China. Green tea is the unfermented leaves of the Camilla Sinensis bush. These keep their color because they are not fermented during the tea processing. The most renowned of the green teas is call Dragon Well and comes from a particular place in China. The third type of Chinese tea is the black tea. Sometime this is also referred to as red tea. During the tea making process, the leaves of the Camilla Sinensis bush are fermented to change the color of the tea from green to black or a reddish color. These are the most popular and have a few subcategories including, Bo lei, luk on, and oolong. Each one has its own properties that area appealing to people. The fourth type is the scented teas. This is when flowers or petals are mixed in with a green or oolong tea to create a scent and flavor that is unique.
