The Central Conference on Rural Work has just concluded, with the yearly meeting setting the tone for next year's rural and agricultural development. This time, the separation of farmland rights and agricultural supply-side structural reforms get more attention, as they are becoming more critical to the nation's food security. Local farmers are now officially allowed to split farmland ownership rights, contract rights and operating rights. That means more people who want to farm can do so, while letting holders of land rights, who'd rather leave farming, move on to greener pastures. So how much more will the reforms affect farmers' life? Listen in to Shi Yan of Shared Harvest CSA Farm in Beijing; Dr. Holly Wang from Purdue University in the US; and John McArthur from the Brookings Institution.
