China: local Chinese animal rescuers attempt to rescue two truck loads of distressed dogs which are bound for dog slaughterhouses, September 2016. Police kept rescuers back as dog traders disguised as quarantine officers in white quarantine suits, were allowed to take control of the dogs. Police also turned a blind eye to the 21 Day Quarantine law and allowed the dogs to be removed on Day 1 of quarantine. Animal rescuers were beaten and held back as police escorted each fully loaded dog truck out of the area, to complete its journey in delivering the dogs to dog slaughterhouses. There are no dog farms in China and most of the dogs on these trucks are stolen pets, still wearing house collars and name tags, with families left behind, grieving and searching for them.
