They could be "illegal" as contraband for import smuggling, but not illegal to own once in the state.

this species is from Indonesia and it is categorized as endangered species. You need license to have them.

no they are legal i have one in my house. my local pet store sell them. its kinda rare to find them but my local fish store sell it for $120 7-8 inch

If they are illegal in all the USA I sure can't tell. It seems every fish store has them for sale where I live. Maybe, locally, you just have to have some sort of permit promising to not release it into any source of water. I know many times the concern is that the animal will take over the native species.
