They need to pump bentonite liquidfied and tonnes of water down those 2000 boreholes
-
If it was only so simple. This is what they propose by my home.
-
Why don't they just pump millions of gallons of water down into the it ...

It's a shame. And those who do not understand what happened should be more respectful. It was a great community that was lost. I live by a mine fire and fear the same outcome. God Bless The Centralians!

Its sad that the guy thought he'd be able return to live in Centralia one day. Now there's not even a town to go back to. Nearly all the buildings and people are gone. The only hint that a town even existed there are the streets that pass by overgrown lots where houses used to stand, and the cemetery. I guess coal fires don't bother the dead.

and the only gov 'assistance' would be ..oh; hey, eminent domain.
(they just take your property; you get no compensation, you do not get relocated.) -
so much sounds just barking mad; you cannot get coal from any source where a fire is so widespread, and no one could 'put it out.' overly simplistic! myself? I'd get the hell away
from there.

In the documentary, 'The Town That Was', they interview an expert that states it was cheaper for the federal government to buy out the entire town of Centralia, than to keep pouring money into trying to douse the fire. I found that fact interesting!

Can you cook hot dogs on them fires or what? Asking for a friend.
-
I wonder how fast the fire would be put out if the Kennedy family had relatives living here.
