I find these walkie talkie radios you can more distance. I did 60 miles + with a Cherokee AH27F with a Wilson 4 foot flex antenna mounted on my pickup truck. I would do more test run with your walkie talkie. Other then that, this is a great video. We need to get more people back into CB Radio. Maybe in 10 years I may get rid of my ham gear and go back to all CB Radio.

CB is for uneducated white trailer-trash rednecks who can barely understand what "push to talk" means. Throw away your cute little children's toy CB. Get your Amateur Radio Technician's license and learn how to use a REAL radio. If you have the brains, go for your General and Extra licenses after that. Learn how to build a proper station that will let you talk around the block and around the world just as easily. Only losers use CB.

I miss in the mid-90s when there was a lot of traffic on the CBs; I use to piss off people by crying wolf a lot.

There is at least one place that CBs are still alive and well - Offroading groups.
It's much easier to run a CB out in BFE than it is a cellphone, and it allows everyone in the group to listen in and chat, especially if someone gets separated. It's why you'll almost always see an antenna on a 4x4 that hits the trails. The only downside is that they don't always run their radios on the normal day to day commutes. -
beware buying cbs from Robert Garner!

To Farpoint Farms: Now do people actually still use the Cb radios anymore??
-
Dont assume because people speak with an accent they are not smart that is racist brother .There are many very smart individuals on cb radio and very rude stupid idiots as well it is a microcosm of normal life .Cb is a good way to stay informed when cell phones stop working but you need to have the proper radio and some extra power and a good antenna setup do not go to wally world and get the 29.00 special you will be very disappointed so many make that mistake and loose interest and you need i good antenna do not do the dual antennas unless you want to have you receive and transmit directional fron to back on your vehicle. The cb antenna on a car need to be 5 ft long to be effective for any distance and for the base station the higher in the air the better for local talk . The antenna needs to be a 1 /2 wave ground plane or fiberglass radome type antenna and 18 ft long minimum and you also must use quality coax to feed your antennas and the radio needs to be setup properly for the best results. You also want a side band and a radio an am only radio is sub par for a serious user and in general you have many more options with ssb or sideband. Tim

Looks like you got a mancave setup in that shed

you don't need a cb radio but you need a cell phone.you don't need a cb radio to talk around the world anymore you can do that on a computer.cb radio is dead.

had several cb's in the early eightys, as a kid, used to make aeriels, out of copper rod and put a wooden dowel up in it for strenght. seal off the ends with denso tape. good times.

Avoid the Cobra 19 III from Wal-Mart. They are a piece of crap. I bought one for my trip to Wichita and it had maybe a 1/4 mile range. Replaced it with my older Cobra 25 LTD and the difference was like night and day. Can talk a good 15 miles with it using the same mobile antenna.
