Bacon U.S.A. - Iowa Hog Farm
Jason Shoultz heads to the top hog farming state in the U.S. In Iowa hogs outnumber people 3 to 1. A hog farmer explains how the breed of hog impacts the taste. The Berkshire breed has recently grown in popularity and that's good news for bacon-lovers. The fattier meat gives the bacon a robust fatty flavor to the bacon.

I am happy to pay for the extra labor to have the pigs live this way.

This brings back memories back when I was a kid, unfortunately we had to sell our family farm, and I went on farming on my own as possible as well as working on other farms, and managing confinement hog units. Never liked confined hogs, and always felt it was best for the hog along with my own health to raise hogs the more natural way, but unfortunately the push for confinement won out in our area here in Indiana. I no longer an able to farm due to health issues that have basically disabled me, but I will always support the farm that raised the animals the right way and the way God intended, and while there are some confined units that do make a effort to do right, most dont treat the hogs the way God intended us too, and while some of the animal right people are completely nuts, they do raise some very good points on welfare of animals and that I do support. We need more farmers raising not just hogs but all livestock the way God intended us too.
