Presently the acceptable way of sorting, weighing and injecting (medications/vaccines) live fish is by anesthetize them before handling. A common method of exposing fish to the anesthetic compound is to establish the desired concentration of anesthetic in container of water (bucket or tub) and placing the fish in the container. A wide variety of compounds have been utilized to anesthetize fish in fisheries research, fisheries management, aquaculture industry and fish health (Clove oil, Phenoxy Ethanol, MS-222 etc'). AquaMor is aiming to find an efficient substitute to the anesthetic component by using natural oils. In this trial the anesthetic effect of AquaMor's formulation (AM-313) was evaluated on Gilthead Seabream (Sparus aurata). The Seabream responded very well to AM-313. The recovery was quick and no secondary side effects were observed. In addition, this anesthetic is more user friendly (not skin irritating).
