..no back country left..New Zealand has done more destruction to rivers, land, air and stream in 150 years than europe has in a thousand. And it continues.the bad video is just a small local look at what has gone on for ten years at break neck speed. The regulatory bodies are largley useless for halting stuff like this.At least Europe is addressing eco problems.Dairy farming money in NZ has eclipsed eco concerns, deforestation was a term even politicians were using ten years ago to describe the mass countrywide shelter belt tree felling(mostly old stable macrocapa, burned for firewood)for the gold rush dairy farm conversions on land previously farmed for sheep and cattle .NZ has large dairy farm units in drought prone north of north island, dairy farming is a effluent hevy , water intense industry.Average farms have doubled herd sizes.Calfs are removed from mothers immediately and fed supplements from plastic teats. A farmer-shareholder nz company LIC's slip shod tampering with gene pool lead to genetically modified bulls produced to be culled in sept,2012 due to excess hair that overheated them.We are told milk powder exports power nz economy yet farmers buy foriegn bank debt for nouveu rich toys like imported pleasure vehicles and Agricultural inputs via aircraft like urea which have increased exponentialy. NZ original fertility from colonial era deforestation is used up and now artificial fertilizers N,P,K are heavily overused. This attitude has not changed since 1940's ,as are pesticides and herbicides.the destruction continues and nz farmers still believe their marketing that they are efficient, green and inventive.in reality farming in nz is 19th century with bigger more available machinery which has terrible consequences when money hungry shareholders own farms they never set foot on and family farms turn into intensive treeless industrial units for protein to go to the new middle classes in china and asia.A typical nz dairy farm is flat paddock,no trees, electric fencing cutting areas into grazing sites, hillsides are flattened as much as possible and the grass is artificial green. The agri sector think their doing hard productive work but their just wrecking what little viable fertility is left in the environment.in the area this video is set,a mere 3% of native habitat remains in pockets to steep for buldozers, and this amount is considered alot for the region.that is pathetic and sad.whats worse is the myth that its back country land.what a farce.
