I was there ... it was at the first IOW festival .. Freshwater?. Bob Dylan .. Richie Havens and so many more. The Who literally set the stage on fire when they smashed their kit .. Thanks for uploading.

Yes I was there too and remember this being played all weekend by DJ Jeff Dexter.

It was most definitely from 1969. I was there! First time I ever heard Amazing Grace in my life!
-
I seem to remember this tune was from the 1970 festival not 1969

Always loved this; messy though it may be! Would LOVE to know who the guitarists for this were. Anyone know?

This was the signature tune to my BBC Radio Merseyside underground music show, 'Around The Edges', from 1970 onwards, picked because, yes, I was at I.O.W the preceding summer. Foolishly tried to find it on Spotify and other places recently: no chance - but a wonderful year, a wonderful festival and very fond memories of my time at Radio Meuse.

I was there ! 'Found the SP by Great Awakening only three years ago after such a long quest ! So great to remember the first time I heard it on Bayswater pop site played so loud that the scratching overture before the first note on guitar fullfilled my ears like a thousand of seagulls coming from pepperland to welcome us .....!

As far as i know this record only sold the first 200 copies , i bought one on order, and the dog chewed it to bits , probably did not like it , i tried to buy another but they had deleted it and would not print any more unless there was a big demand , first time i have heard in 40 years and its still brill

I have loved this version since the sixties, heard at many festivals and it sounded so good over the P.A. Could not find it on any music site. But 2 years ago I browsed in a record store in a village and found it . I was so overjoyed and it was in mint condition , cost £4 a bargain for sure . Played it to death when I got home . Best played as loud as possible .

I have waited 45 years to hear this again, I LOVE it. Don't know why, but I do. It made all the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and my arms are still tingling as I write this. I wasn't there, and I couldn't buy the record because my husband wouldn't give me any spending money. (Of course I divorced him!!) Thank you so much.

Yes, we were there, hearing that song first thing in the morning was the one that got us all up and running. I even had to hold the radio outside the window for weeks after when it came on the radio to get the same sound - turned up as loud as it would go. Thanks for posting.

Recollections!
Yes I was there 1969 awe-inspiring indeed. I was a 15 year old what an event! Thanks for the memories ;-) The great awakening whatever happened to the band and its members. I'd be interested on any information. Enjoy your music. -
I've searched so long to hear this again. Scratchy as it may sound now, it was an awe-inspiring sound when it was broadcast every morning over the campsite. I love slide guitar and I love the song, perhaps both a legacy of the summer of 1970. Thanks for posting it

I was there in 1970 (I also slept through Hendrix!) Great song to be played at my funeral.

I have been looking for this for years. Thanks for posting it. I remember John Peel playing this as his intro every time he came on stage. Such memories - thanks.

I had just turned 20 when I went to the 70 IOW.Here are some abiding memories. Naked hippies running up and down the beach. Buying a pair of pink lensed glasses because they made everything look trippy. It being announced that some poor bastard had fallen off the seating plank into the shit pit. Being so stoned and knackered that I fell asleep & missed Jimi Hendrix. "Anarchists" tearing down the fence. Our lift home went without us. It took us 2 days to hitch home having slept in a haystack.

I was also there same age as Nigel Sharratt and 54321sunrise born 13.01.53 went with my cousin who lives in the states he had already been to, Woodstock we pitched our tent near water taps good job we did, managed to set part of our tent on fire no health/ safety jobsworth around then, thankfully, bought this 45 on vinyl when I got back stayed on a further 4 days in a red cross tent and had somenone playing Bob Dylan tracks all night at disco volume took me 13 hours to hitch back to Leicester

It is one of those 'I was there' moments. As I write I am looking at two black and white photos taken of me and my three mates on the campsite. This drifted over the crowd each day. I was 16 years old and just waiting for my 'O' level results - perhaps I should have done more studying - but what the hell you can't take these memories away from me.
