25/04/2012 [FULL SESSION] Donald Trump at the Scottish parliament committee meeting: Windfarms
Donald Trump & co at the Scottish parliament committee challenging future Scottish Government proposals for Wind farm development. Energy Committee American business tycoon Donald Trump told the Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee he had been "lured" into building a £1bn golf resort in Scotland with assurances that a nearby wind farm would not go ahead, on 25 April 2012. Mr Trump said he was assured by the then first minister Jack McConnell, and by Alex Salmond, that the project would not happen. He said "What they did is they lured me in. I spent this money, and now I might regret it."Lord McConnell and Mr Salmond have denied the claims. Mr Trump said Mr Salmond, who became First Minister in May 2007, had "poo-pooed" the wind farm development, saying there was an MoD problem and "all sorts of shipping lane problems". He added: "After I've invested this tremendous amount of money, all of a sudden this really obnoxious and ugly wind farm appears - which is worse than a wind farm because there is going to be all these different looking windmills." He said he "felt betrayed" as he had invested his money because of statements that had been made to him. SNP MSP Chic Brodie told Mr Trump there had been a 9% increase in tourism visits to Scotland last year and pointed to research by VisitScotland in which 80% of people in the UK said the presence of a wind farm would not affect their decision about where to stay when on a holiday or short break in Britain. The South of Scotland MSP asked the US tycoon what analysis he had that "supports the assertions you have made against wind" But Mr Trump replied: "I am the evidence. I am an expert in tourism, I am considered a world-class expert in tourism, so when you say where is the evidence, I am the evidence." Scottish Conservative MSP and convener of the committee Murdo Fraser pressed Mr Trump on why he had not sought more than just verbal assurances, given the importance of the development. Mr Trump said he "didn't think it was necessary". Mr Fraser went on to ask Mr Trump about claims that he was looking to withdraw from the site and was conducting a "face-saving exercise". Mr Trump replied: "I am looking forward to proceeding with the job and I want to build a hotel, I want to build further, I don't want to stop." Green MSP Patrick Harvie quizzed Mr Trump on the details of the purchase of the land for his development and the circumstances surrounding the alleged assurances on the wind farm proposals.Scottish Labour MSP Claire Baker pointed out to the American businessman that it was not just wind turbines that aged and became obsolete but that this was a challenge for all energy sectors. Also giving evidence were George Sorial from the Trump Organisation; J Mark Gibson and Graham Lang from Communities Against Turbines Scotland.

Here we see Trump OWN the best that Scotland has to produce, in a debate. In their own parliament. Their own turf. Now Imagine him as US President barking orders at these same miserable Scottish pricks. What a bunch of sad losers really - even Crooked Hillary can show them their place. As for Trump, he can eat them all for breakfast. What a bunch of sad clowns that don't know anything better than reading from a script every single time so that they don't appear like the dumb idiots they truly are. Trump is so confident that he doesn't need to carry any papers around. In his own words, "he's always ready for a debate".

Some may call them "monstrosities" but I, on the other hand, think its very cool looking when I drive near the wind-farm nearest me.
I actually think its beautiful; man harnessing nature, a testament to human ingenuity and evidence of what we can do when we set our minds to it and work together, and a shining light at the end of the tunnel in liberating ourselves from the dependence of fossil fuels -
Wind turbines are ugly, slow and requires hundreds of them to make real amount of energy for one community. Wind power also kill birds. Wind mills even in the US looks awful. I seen them and they are gigantic and very ugly and slow too.

It seems that Trump is somewhat abrasive in general but his presence in this meeting was acceptably professional, He was well informed and he did listen to others... which is somewhat reassuring if he's elected. However, I still don't agree with his plan to build a wall or his financial agenda and his tax plan would just enable the super rich and the 1% to hoard more money. Anyway, that's aboyt all the tax breaks have provided so far.... a wider gap between rich and poor and a skyrocketing national debt.

I completely agree with Trump. The Scottish government don't have a clue how to carry out business. It smacks of petty parochialism. Trump is offering 1000's of jobs and millions of pounds of investment to the Scottish economy. For the Scottish government to overlook this for the sake of a wind farm is not only deluded but very disappointing and certainly not representative of the Scottish people's wishes.

I support Trump. However, I think wind turbines are awesome. I was just getting both sides of the issue. He had talked to a person at his rally about wind and now I am seeing what he says in front of a group that won't give him votes.
A): In the USA wind turbines kill 214,000 to 360,000 birds per year.
B): Collisions with cellphone towers kill 6.8 million.
C): Cats kill 1.4 billion to 3.7 billlion.
Google it.
Thus, claims about bird deaths are bogus. Birds are not stupid creatures. Besides, there are technologies such as robotic birds that are used in certain areas of the globe that scare the birds away.
And.... Offshore Wind turbines are extremely efficient. They can run frequently because in the ocean, there is usually always wind unlike land based ones. -
I think if trump says the woman in the tartan jacket behind him is a stupid idiot then she'd nod her head and agree

Trump is such a douche nozzle.
