2,000 Years of Chinese History! The Mandate of Heaven and Confucius: World History #7
2,000 Years of Chinese History! The Mandate of Heaven and Confucius: Crash Course World History #7 In which John introduces you to quite a lot of Chinese history by discussing the complicated relationship between the Confucian scholars who wrote Chinese history and the emperors (and empress) who made it. Included is a brief introduction to all the dynasties in Chinese history and an introduction to Confucius and the Confucian emphasis on filial piety, the role the mandate of heaven played in organizing China, and how China became the first modern state. Why do people glorify the Mongols so much? Sure, they created an empire but these nomadic horsemen knew nuts about running an empire. They don't grow their food, can't feed the people they conquered and don't know the bureaucratic details of governance. They claimed extensive territories, destroyed old knowledge and culture and then claimed to be a Chinese dynasty to make China the scapegoat. Now after they left, China has to clean up all the horse manure and other conquered territories hate China because of the Mongols.
The Qing dynasty (Manchus) also did similar things. No wonder why most Chinese say the decline of the empire began with the Song dynasty's fall, long before the rise of Communist China. Oh glorious Song dynasty! What would history be like if you had survived? -

Actually, the Xia dynasty is probably fictional. Kinda like the Trojan War. There were documents about them, but no actual proof supportive or refuting its existence. The "history" could have been mythologised. At least that's what my Chinese History teacher said.
-
Back when I was in school they said the Shang were mythical, so maybe one day the Hsia will fade in to history as well...

is anyone else studying for finals?
