10 Health Benefits Of Earl Grey Tea
10 Health Benefits Of Earl Grey Tea Earl Grey tea is a category of flavored tea blend that is very popular in the Western world. It is a black tea with a citrus flavor. Earl Grey has a peculiar taste due to the addition of oil extracted from the zest of the bergamot orange. Bergamot is a yellow colored, fragrant fruit, very similar to a lemon and in the size of an orange. Earl Grey is named after the late British Prime Minister Charles Grey. He was the Prime Minister of England from 1830 to 1834. It is said that a Chinese mandarin gifted the recipe of making this uniquely flavored tea to King Charles as a token of gratitude when one of his men rescued the tea blender’s son from drowning. Earl Grey is made with black tea leaves. The taste and quality of the tea depend on the climate, geography of the region where it is grown, and how it is processed. Since the flavor of bergamot varies significantly with the place of cultivation, its processing style and also the amount of bergamot used for each tea blend, this is also an important factor that affects the quality of the tea. Along with its unique taste and flavor, this tea also has a wide range of health benefits.

A minor correction: While Earl Grey is primarily known to be a black tea blend, it's also available as a green tea blend (and oolong it seems). In fact, the only green tea blend/flavor that I enjoy is Earl Grey green tea - no other green tea flavor cuts it for me. I've tried out all kinds of different and "fancy" tea flavors over the years but I've always found myself going back to basics with Earl Grey when it comes to both black and green tea. It's quite unusual for the same flavor to work equally great with both black and green tea but I find Earl Grey to be the best flavor for both (Twinings Earl Grey for green tea, Lipton Earl Grey for black tea).

Theobromine is the primary stimulant in tea, not caffeine. Theobromine is what you find in chocolate. Ha!
